I felt I was destined to just eat an egg or some pasta because I didn't now how to cook for one. Thankfully I stumbled across your site. The oven baked tilapia was delicious. Well at least now I can cook fish since there is no one complaining about the smell. Thank you for your efforts.Tales from the Edgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13649827679392244636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6514047866200295403.post-80113444710203099192012-12-23T09:14:12.891-05:002012-12-23T09:14:12.891-05:00Dr. Dan,

My wife and I come from big families so most of our recipes are for large groups of people. We'd be left with leftovers for days. Well, we stumbled upon this site looking for new recipes and we've fallen in love with so many of the great recipes. Thank you for that!

Our Christmas eve tradition is to make an amazing pot of potato soup. It almost always beats Christmas dinner in popularity because it is so good. We never have any leftovers! Making cookies with the grandparents is a close second to our favorite tradition.

VinceAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12229262978663508219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6514047866200295403.post-7005333107130873342012-12-21T15:48:51.405-05:002012-12-21T15:48:51.405-05:00Merry Christmas!! When I was little my sister and I used to sit in her kitchen helping her make Christmas candies all day long and when she wasn't looking we would sneak a bourbon ball that hadn't been dipped in chocolate yet (hehe). :) They bring back good memories and I plan to make some this weekend and continue the tradition!
-AmandaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6514047866200295403.post-48574929434083630952012-12-20T23:31:17.227-05:002012-12-20T23:31:17.227-05:00I make a huge pot of chili (with turkey) for Chris...I make a huge pot of chili (with turkey) for Christmas. During Christmas week, every day when I came home from school I would walk into a home filled with the smells of cookies being baked. Mom some times baked up to 12 different types of cookies. I am now 61 and Mom is long gone, but I still bake her cookie recipes. It just doesn't seem like Christmas if I don't.Barbara Welshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06237987451519577345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6514047866200295403.post-87273620414853175072012-12-18T19:54:37.919-05:002012-12-18T19:54:37.919-05:00Happy Holidays to you! I haven't commented before because I'm a bit of a lurker, but I love the grading system you use and that you cook real food (not overly fancy or fad diet-y). The recipe that makes me think of the holiday season most is this dessert that my mom used to make. We just called them Date Balls, but I promise they're tastier than that sounds. Sugar and butter and chopped dates and rice krispies all melted/stirred together, rolled in chopped walnuts. They are just the right level of sweetness, and combo of soft/crunchy. :)Amanda G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/03845446576703097607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6514047866200295403.post-67985943231142279152012-12-18T17:06:17.607-05:002012-12-18T17:06:17.607-05:00Every Christmas I make cinnamon-spiced pecans to g...Every Christmas I make cinnamon-spiced pecans to give as gifts to friends and relatives! She made thumbprint cookies and press cookies. I used to make press cookies with my son, passing on memories to the next generation.
My Omi (german grandmother) made almond cookies and Streuselkuchen. I have her recipe for the almond cookies. One of the ingredients is hartshorne, which I can never find. I use a combination or baking soda and powder but they taste a bit different.
This year I found a recipe for Streuselkuchen. My husband made it yesterday, as it is a yeast dough, and he is the bread baker in the family. I almost cried when I ate the result. It wasn't Omi's but tasted close enough to take me back to being 10 or 11 and eating her kuchen.
I guess all of my food memories of christmas is entwined with both of my grandmother's desserts that they made at Christmas. I hope my son has similar memories of the cookies I make thinking of my grandmother's.Feldydancerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05455027580561194139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6514047866200295403.post-91935423719086641412012-12-17T23:38:56.149-05:002012-12-17T23:38:56.149-05:00Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Dr. Dan. I'...Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Dr. Dan. I've been reading your blog for about a year or so (I think...truthfully can't remember). I always think of sweets when it's holiday time, and my favorite sweet to make is either snickerdoodles (like Gramma used to make) OR Ritz with peanut butter dipped in almond bark. Neither of these are necessarily restricted to the holidays, but that's the only time my family (re: me) makes them. Anyway, Merry Christmas and hope 2013 is a great year for all :) Awesome Autumnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15518744161825817012noreply@blogger.com
