A Giveaway - and Thank You for the visits
As a special thank you to all of you and in celebration of 2,000,000 page views, I'm giving away a cookbook. The obvious choice is America's Test Kitchen's Cooking for Two 2012. It just seems appropriate don't you think.
I know the 2,000,000 is just the blogger count and not the most accurate. See widget lower left.
The rules and how to enter:
There are always rules in life.1) The giveaway is open to USA and Canadian residents. The Canadians seem to always be left out due to customs issues. Well we Michiganders will not stand for it I say (this time at least). Since I'm buying the book from Amazon and directly shipping to you (read lazy me), I can order from Amazon.ca if needed (I hope).
2) You must be 18 years of age or older.
3) Enter through the Rafflecopter giveaway widget below. This is a must along with the required comment to enter.
4) Leave a comment on this post of 20 words or more with seasons greetings and what is your favorite recipe/food that makes you think of the holiday season. Remember to also so the Rafflecoper widget. Just commenting is not entering.
5) Only one entry per person/email. Duplicates will result in all being deleted.
6) Any post/entry with a link to anything other than a food blog or a recipe will be deleted and not eligible for the giveaway. Bah humbug to you...
Starts at 12 AM EST 12/18/2012 and ends at 12 AM EST 12/24/2012
Do not forget to do both the comment and the Rafflecopter widget
Good luck and Happy Holidays. Again thanks for the support.
FCC disclaimer: I'm paying for it myself.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Dr. Dan. I've been reading your blog for about a year or so (I think...truthfully can't remember). I always think of sweets when it's holiday time, and my favorite sweet to make is either snickerdoodles (like Gramma used to make) OR Ritz with peanut butter dipped in almond bark. Neither of these are necessarily restricted to the holidays, but that's the only time my family (re: me) makes them. Anyway, Merry Christmas and hope 2013 is a great year for all :)
Merry Christmas.
I have several foods that make me think of christmas. One is my grandmother's gingerbread. I make a batch of it every year. She made thumbprint cookies and press cookies. I used to make press cookies with my son, passing on memories to the next generation.
My Omi (german grandmother) made almond cookies and Streuselkuchen. I have her recipe for the almond cookies. One of the ingredients is hartshorne, which I can never find. I use a combination or baking soda and powder but they taste a bit different.
This year I found a recipe for Streuselkuchen. My husband made it yesterday, as it is a yeast dough, and he is the bread baker in the family. I almost cried when I ate the result. It wasn't Omi's but tasted close enough to take me back to being 10 or 11 and eating her kuchen.
I guess all of my food memories of christmas is entwined with both of my grandmother's desserts that they made at Christmas. I hope my son has similar memories of the cookies I make thinking of my grandmother's.
May this be an extra special Christmas for the people in Newtown, CT. Especially the children. They all deserve somethingspecial. If you have any "pull" with Santa relay this message to him.
My favorite holiday recipe is for English Gingersnap Cookies.
May your Christmas Season be extra special. I absolutely love making Christmas cookies and all the different dishes for the Christmas season. This year I am going to try my hand at some chocolate bark. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families in Newton, CT.
Merry Christmas! I am so excited for Christmas this year, as it will be my first Christmas away from home as a newlywed. I couldn't ask for better or more welcoming in-laws! One of my favorite holiday recipes is any type of cookie but I am especially excited to try cinnamon roll cookies and peppermint cheesecake bars
Every Christmas I make cinnamon-spiced pecans to give as gifts to friends and relatives! They love it, and I'm happy to see them "light up" when they receive these presents from me.
Happy Holidays to you! I haven't commented before because I'm a bit of a lurker, but I love the grading system you use and that you cook real food (not overly fancy or fad diet-y). The recipe that makes me think of the holiday season most is this dessert that my mom used to make. We just called them Date Balls, but I promise they're tastier than that sounds. Sugar and butter and chopped dates and rice krispies all melted/stirred together, rolled in chopped walnuts. They are just the right level of sweetness, and combo of soft/crunchy. :)
Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! My favorite Christmas recipe are all the Christmas cookies my Mom would bake. During Christmas week, every day when I came home from school I would walk into a home filled with the smells of cookies being baked. Mom some times baked up to 12 different types of cookies. I am now 61 and Mom is long gone, but I still bake her cookie recipes. It just doesn't seem like Christmas if I don't.
Happy Holidays to all :) Favorite holiday dish would be my mom's homemade manicotti - she only makes it at Christmas which makes it all the more special :)
Happy Holidays! My favorite Christmas dish is beef rib roast, which is actually a tradition that started once all my siblings were adults. As kids, it was turkey for thanksgiving and Christmas. But now, Christmas means beef rib roast!
I make a huge pot of chili (with turkey) for Christmas. Everyone is welcome since Christmas is all about being with friends and family no matter what religion you are.
Merry Christmas!! My favorite recipe that makes me think of Christmas time is my grandmother's family recipe for bourbon balls - a great Christmas candy! When I was little my sister and I used to sit in her kitchen helping her make Christmas candies all day long and when she wasn't looking we would sneak a bourbon ball that hadn't been dipped in chocolate yet (hehe). :) They bring back good memories and I plan to make some this weekend and continue the tradition!

Merry Christmas!
I always look forward to new recipes from you. My wife and I come from big families so most of our recipes are for large groups of people. We'd be left with leftovers for days. Well, we stumbled upon this site looking for new recipes and we've fallen in love with so many of the great recipes. Thank you for that!
Our Christmas eve tradition is to make an amazing pot of potato soup. It almost always beats Christmas dinner in popularity because it is so good. We never have any leftovers! Making cookies with the grandparents is a close second to our favorite tradition.

Dr. Dan,
As an empty nester, your blog has been a godsend.
My favorite Christmas recipe is Red Velvet Cake that my mom always made from scratch. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
First a merry Christmas. May you have a peaceful and successful New Year. I just became an empty nester this year. I felt I was destined to just eat an egg or some pasta because I didn't now how to cook for one. Thankfully I stumbled across your site. The oven baked tilapia was delicious. Well at least now I can cook fish since there is no one complaining about the smell. Thank you for your efforts.
Merry Christmas! Our family's favorite recipe at the holidays is Bobby Flay's Southwest Turkey. For dessert, the I-must-bring-or-don't-show-up-dish is White Chocolate, Cranberry & Pecan Tart.
