Google Plus

Many of you use Google Plus so I'm "coming out of the closet" with my real name. I have been hiding behind DrDan for 3 years now.  I haven't been very hidden since it was buried at the bottom of each post anyways. So this is for you Google+ people. I will try to be social.
I will continue to use DrDan since I like that name from one of my favorite children's book .

Slow Cooker Pot Roast with Gravy

Slow Cooker Pot Roast with Gravy from 101 Cooking For Two
A classic comfort food made crock pot easy. Have a full meal with left overs ready when you get home. Spend a few minutes making gravy and you're the dinner hero.

I started with a chuck roast. You can use a leaner cut of beef but it will not be as tender. We like our roast falling apart. I browned mine before adding and cooked the onion and garlic a little before starting but skip both these parts if you want. Most home cooks do but I think the minimal work adds some additional flavor.

Hash Brown Potatoes - Easy Peasy

Hash Brown Potatoes - Easy Peasy from 101 Cooking For Two
We love hash browns. Not good for us but we love them. But people seem not to be able to make a decent has brown.

Tips for a really good hash brown.
  1. Use a nonstick pan
  2. Use enough oil
  3. The potatoes MUST be dry (see pictures below)
  4. And last, KEEP YOU HANDS OFF
That is all you need to know.

Super (Bowl) Food 2013 edition

What to do??? What to do??? Everyone wants something special for their Superbowl. After all it is about food and commercials. Some people actually watch the game. But it really is about the food. So what self respecting food blog doesn't have some ideas.  It's "Man Ball" time so I'm offering meat only suggestions. I have some great pizzas and other recipes, but we are talking football here.

A great finger food for that "bring a dish" party. What could go wrong with bacon, sugar and spices? Nothing. Cubes of chicken wrapped with bacon and coated with brown sugar, chili powder and cumin. Baked until crispy. A skill level of 3/10 (easy). Plus it is easy to double or triple if needed.

An easy mass cooking that you can do ahead. Scale to any size and not much work for great return.

This will take a few hours on the day of the event. But you can produce a lot of great food fast.

My all time favorite... it is almost no work with great results. Cook ahead and pop it in the oven to reheat.

An easy cook ahead mass cooking. Add BBQ sauce and have a BBQ chicken fest.

Well that is a good start. Have a great Super Bowl Sunday.
